Powertrain in the 2020 Rio
A few changes have taken place under the hood of the Rio for 2020. First, the previous Gamma 1.6L GDI engine will be replaced by an all-new Gamma 2 1.6L MPI engine that achieves 120 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque. We get it, those numbers may not seem all that exciting, but the next set of numbers might be. Both the LX and S trim levels achieve an efficient 33 city and 41 highway mpg, so you’ll have a long time to cruise before needing to stop at the next gas pump. Adding to the efficiency is a new iVT transmission that replaces the previous six-speed automatic.
