Engine Options and Performance in the 2020 Kia Soul
If you’re looking for a vehicle that is different from most others on the road, you need look no further than the 2020 Kia Soul. The unique boxy shape is complimented by the signature Kia tiger-nose grille, but it’s not just about appearance. The shape of the Soul has a purpose: to offer drivers more cargo and passenger space despite a smaller, lightweight design. It performs well. Find out how well as we look at the engine options and performance in the 2020 Kia Soul!
The 2020 Soul comes with two engine options: a 2.0L MPI engine and a 1.6L turbocharged engine. As you may recall from the 2019 Soul, that year it came with three engine options. While this may seem like a setback to some, there’s actually more power in the base 2.0L MPI engine. It gets a boost with 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. What’s more, even with this extra power it will not be seeing a dip in fuel efficiency as it still gets 27 city/33 hwy mpg.
Upgrade to the 1.6L turbocharged engine and you’ll get 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. If this engine sounds familiar, that’s because it is – it’s the same engine found in the 2020 Kia Forte GT! For the 2020 model year, the Soul will come in three different transmission options: 6-speed manual transmission, Intelligent Variable Transmission (i-VT), and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The former 6-speed automatic has been replaced by the i-VT for better fuel efficiency and a more spirited drive.
