The 2021 Kia K5 offers two powerful engines for shoppers to choose from. The standard is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, while the available is a potent 2.5-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile the Kia Optima is equipped with a standard 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while also offering an available 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder that produces 178 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.

The standard and available transmissions for both the 2021 K5 and 2020 Optima differ, as the 2020 Optima was equipped with a standard 6-speed shiftable automatic and offered an available 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. Meanwhile, the 2021 K5 offers upgraded transmissions with a standard 8-speed shiftable automatic transmission and an available 8-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission.
