IIHS: Top Safety Pick+

While we haven’t yet heard from the NHTSA, the IIHS has announced this year’s ratings for the Kia lineup, and the 2018 Niro Hybrid achieved the highest rating of Top Safety Pick+, when equipped with its available safety technologies: Autonomous Emergency Braking and the Forward Collision Warning System, as well as high-intensity discharge headlights.

In order to earn that designation, the Kia Niro had to earn a Good rating in six different crashworthiness tests, including driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, small impact, roof strength and head restraint. Additionally, the Niro Hybrid needed to earn either Good or Acceptable in the passenger side small overlap front test, Advanced or Superior in front crash prevention, and at least Good in headlight testing.
